Thyroid cancer occurs when cells in your thyroid undergo genetic changes (mutations). The mutations allow the cells to grow and multiply rapidly. The cells also lose the ability to die, as normal cells would. The accumulating abnormal thyroid cells form a tumor. The abnormal cells can invade nearby tissue and can spread throughout the body.
A malignancy related to the changes in thyroid gland pertaining to cancer, originating from follicular cells. It is well differentiated or poorly differentiated. It causes a lump in the thyroid gland and progressively leads to hoarseness in voice and finally loss of appetite. If detected early, it has excellent outcomes and the prognosis is very good over a longer term.
